| The selection procedure comprised: unreplicated summer selection plots, unreplicated winter selections plots, replicated district trials then unreplicated demonstrations. All activities were carried out in commercial crops. To provide seed of the breeding lines, a seed bulking plot was grown annually for three years, concurrent with the selection procedure, under the seed certification scheme. The “formal” test procedure ended here and breeding lines that had been identified with potential benefits to industry and consumers were recommended for commercial testing. Commercial testing by farmers used paddock strips, allowing comparison with adjacent commercial crops. |
